Jailed Schoolteacher to Be Set Free Today
SEATTLE — The teacher whose seduction of a sixth-grader provided fodder for tabloids in the late 1990s will be released from prison today.
Mary Kay Letourneau, 42, will be set free after serving a seven-year sentence for child rape. She has not said if she will reunite with Vili Fualaau, now 21, with whom she has two children.
“I’m not allowing myself to think about being with him,” Letourneau told a Seattle TV station. “We had a beautiful relationship, and I value it for what it was.”
Letourneau was 34 in 1996 when her friendship with the then-12-year-old Fualaau became sexual.
