ABC Model, Not Execs, Is Problem

The management changes at ABC will have absolutely zero effect on its ratings or revenue since the people are not the problem (“New ABC Chief Faces Turnaround Challenge,” Wednesday).
TV’s outdated model has been rendered obsolete and ineffective by the explosion in viewer options, and until that is addressed, network ratings will continue their free fall until they bottom out and become nothing more than slightly larger versions of their cable brethren, or cease to exist.
All networks use the same counterproductive scripted-series model; it’s just that ABC fails a little more than its competition.
Turning ABC around is not hard to do once you change the outdated model, but that is something no one at Disney will do.
