From Times Wire Reports
The Navy completed its handover of Kahoolawe Island, withdrawing personnel and equipment and transferring power to the state after a 10-year, $460-million cleanup of the former bombing site.
Kahoolawe is sacred to native Hawaiians who believe the island, near Maui and Lanai, connects them to ancestors. The island will be set aside for cultural and archeological activities.
