School Officials Dispute Quake Damage Report

School officials are trying to convince the Federal Emergency Management Agency of major earthquake damage at Flamson Middle School.
Federal officials determined that damage from the magnitude-6.5 quake on Dec. 22 was superficial, or “mostly cosmetic,” and that cracks can be repaired with epoxy injections, FEMA spokeswoman Jean Baker said.
School district officials say, however, that core samples show cracks penetrating the entire width of the walls. The 38,300-square-foot building houses most classrooms, the library and auditorium.
