Pedroza Jailed After Officials Issue Warrant
Martin Pedroza, the leading jockey at Fairplex Park for the fifth consecutive year, was arrested Friday and unable to ride 10 scheduled mounts at the Los Angeles County Fair in Pomona.
Sgt. Tim Phillips at the Temple City Police Department said that Pedroza, 38, remained in custody Friday night. Phillips said that there had been a battery warrant issued for Pedroza and he was being held on a $26,000 bond. Phillips had no other details about the case.
Richie Silverstein, Pedroza’s agent, said that he expected his rider to be back riding today, which is the next-to-last day of the 17-day Fairplex meet.
“If it’s as simple as Martin says it is, I hope to have him out,†Silverstein said. “He told me that he had misfiled some court papers.â€
Pedroza has won 27 races at the meet. His record total at Fairplex is 376 victories. Pedroza has more than 2,300 victories with horses who have earned more than $56 million.
