A Newport Beach woman was killed Thursday when she was run over by her own car, police said.
Mariam Amadi, 44, had gotten out of her Honda Accord in the 2700 block of Hillside Drive about 7:45 a.m., police said, when she noticed it rolling backward and tried to stop it.
“She was caught under the left front wheel, which caused mortal injury,” said Lt. Jim Kaminsky, a spokesman for the Newport Beach Police Department.
After being freed from beneath the car by several onlookers, Amadi was taken by helicopter to Western Medical Center- Santa Ana, where she died during surgery.
The accident remains under investigation, Kaminsky said.
