Warrant Issued for Inmate in 1971 Slaying
El Dorado County authorities have issued an arrest warrant alleging first-degree murder by a prison inmate they suspect is tied to a 1971 killing.
The district attorney’s office is preparing a removal order to bring Phillip Arthur Thompson to El Dorado County to be arraigned for involvement in the death of Betty Marie Cloer more than 30 years ago.
Thompson is serving an 18-years-to-life sentence at California State Prison, Solano, for kidnapping.
Officials said Wednesday that they matched evidence taken at the time of the murder to DNA in the state Department of Justice’s prisoner DNA data bank.
