2 British Officers Reportedly Abducted

Maoist rebels kidnapped two British army officers and three Nepalese from the remote mountain village of Lekhali, Nepal, an official said -- the first time the insurgents have reportedly abducted foreigners since their violent campaign began in 1996.
The British officers were trekking in the area, recruiting men to work as Gurkha soldiers, Baglung district chief Prem Narayan Sharma said.
The British Embassy in Katmandu confirmed that five people had been out of contact since Sunday, but it declined to give more details.
