FCC Refuses to Alter Number Shift Date

The Federal Communications Commission rejected a request to delay the implementation of a regulation allowing customers in the top 100 telephone markets to shift their home number to their wireless phone.
Rural local telephone carrier CenturyTel Inc. and the U.S. Telecom Assn. had asked the agency to postpone the action, which will go into effect Monday, arguing they’re at an unfair disadvantage since it is easier to move a number from a home phone to a wireless phone than vice versa.
