Americans Warned of Kidnapping Threat
The U.S. Embassy in Israel has received “credible reports†of plans to kidnap U.S. citizens in the Gaza Strip, the embassy announced on its Web site.
“At this time, Americans are advised to be particularly cautious,†it said, adding that citizens should follow existing recommendations to defer travel to Israel, the West Bank and Gaza.
The U.S. Embassy said there are fewer than 500 Americans in Gaza. Some Palestinian and Israeli settlers in the Gaza Strip hold American citizenship, and American aid workers and peace activists are also in the area.
