Nepalese Prime Minister Lokendra Bahadur Chand resigned after months of protests that his appointment was unconstitutional.

King Gyanendra began consulting with the five largest political parties on forming a new Cabinet. “We told the king the only way out of this political crisis is by forming a new government and reinstating Parliament,†Narayan Man Bijukchhe of the Nepal Workers and Peasant’s Party said.

The king had appointed Chand after firing an elected government led by Sher Bahadur Deuba for seeking to delay parliamentary elections.
