Police Union Will Have a Hand in Picking Chief

Sacramento city officials have launched their search for the city’s next police chief -- and for the first time, the Sacramento police officers’ union will be asked to help pick the top cop.
Cities from L.A. to Red Bluff have asked police unions to comment on who should be selected to lead their departments.
Sacramento City Manager Bob Thomas said that when the field is whittled to finalists, Sacramento Police Officers Assn. representatives will go with Thomas to visit the final three candidates in their hometowns.
