6 Downey Narcotics Officers Put on Leave Amid Inquiry
Six members of the Downey Police Department’s narcotics squad have been placed on administrative leave because of “procedural irregularities†that may be criminal in nature, the department said Thursday.
Lt. Charlie Baptista, a department spokesman, would not reveal what the irregularities were.
He said only that the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department was conducting an investigation.
Sheriff’s deputies declined to comment on the case.
Baptista said the six narcotics officers, who were not named, were placed on leave May 7. He said sheriff’s detectives were contacted and took over the inquiry May 8.
He declined to say how many officers are assigned to Downey’s narcotics unit.
