Howland Meets With Guerrero
Pittsburgh basketball Coach Ben Howland met with UCLA Athletic Director Dan Guerrero on Sunday in Santa Barbara, according to a source close to Pittsburgh.
Howland is a top candidate to replace Steve Lavin, who was fired two weeks ago as Bruin coach. Pittsburgh went 28-5 this season, losing to Marquette in the Midwest Regional semifinals on Thursday.
Howland, whose parents live in Santa Barbara, is expected to meet with Pittsburgh officials again before finalizing anything with UCLA. He is the first candidate to meet with Guerrero.
Panther officials said they plan to offer Howland a raise from the approximately $800,000 a year he currently earns in an effort to keep him.
Lavin was fired after UCLA had its first losing season (10-19) since 1947-48.
