Sears to Reduce Headquarters Staff

Sears, Roebuck & Co. plans unspecified reductions to its corporate headquarters staff as the retailer continues cutting costs after 18 months of declining sales.
Sears said the number of layoffs among the 6,000 to 6,500 employees who work at its headquarters in Hoffman Estates, Ill., has yet to be determined but that the cuts would take place this spring. The company has eliminated 5,900 salaried positions.
Sears shares rose 28 cents to $21.45 on the NYSE.
