U.S. Helicopter Crashes in Afghanistan, Killing 6
WASHINGTON — A U.S. Air Force helicopter on a medical evacuation mission crashed 18 miles north of Ghazni, Afghanistan, on Sunday, killing all six people onboard, a statement released by U.S. Central Command said.
The HH-60 Pave Hawk was not shot down and the cause of the crash is being investigated, the statement said. The medical emergency and the helicopter flight were not connected to an effort to root out remnants of Al Qaeda and Taliban in southeastern Afghanistan, military officials said.
The last helicopter crash in Afghanistan happened Jan. 30, when a Black Hawk helicopter, the Army’s version of the Pave Hawk, crashed during a training mission near the Bagram air base outside Kabul, killing four.
