Use Your Sixth Sense
Local horseplayers who long for pick six carry-overs should be in heaven today.
There isn’t one at Santa Anita, but there are three others, at Aqueduct, Gulfstream Park and Golden Gate Fields.
The largest is in New York. Nobody was able to hit all six winners Sunday, so $48,832 carried over. The New York Racing Assn. moved the pick six to the final six races, so bettors at Santa Anita and its simulcast facilities will be able to play.
The most logical winner in the pick six at Aqueduct is Golden Damsel. She drops out of two stakes against open company to meet a field of New York-breds in the fifth, a $46,000 allowance at one mile.
After nobody was able to hit the pick six for a second consecutive day Monday, the carry-over at Gulfstream Park is $25,203. The two-day carry-over at Golden Gate is $27,295.
Race of the day: The speedy Hombre Rapido will try for his third consecutive victory for trainer John Sadler in today’s seventh at Santa Anita. The $65,000 allowance at six furlongs attracted five other entrants.
Who’s hot: Cole Norman. The trainer won the 1,000th race of his career over the weekend and is on the verge of setting a record for most wins by a trainer in a meet at Oaklawn Park in Hot Springs, Ark.
Who’s not: Juan Garcia. The trainer lost with 41 of his first 42 starters at Santa Anita.
Exotically speaking: A pick four using Pet Bob, Assaulting Ride and Manonthemove in the fifth, Groom On The Run, Mont Saint Michel and Heaven’s Treat in the sixth, single Hombre Rapido in the seventh and use Stanley Park, Gassan Royal and Lure Of The Links in the eighth.
Winners: Previous day/meet total: 3/169. Money: Previous day/meet total: $15.20/$957.20. Total money bet: $1,030.
