New Fault Is Forming Near Lake Isabella

The Earth is creating a new fault in the mountains southeast of Lake Isabella, U.S. Geological Survey scientists said.
It is likely to take thousands or even a million years before becoming a full-fledged fault that could pose a major new earthquake hazard, geophysicist Gerald W. Bawden said.
Scientists said this may be the first time in history that an infant fault has been detected in the process of formation.
