A small plane lost power and crashed into a field in a remote area of southern Riverside County on Monday afternoon, killing the three people on board, the Federal Aviation Administration said.
The Beechcraft 33 went down near Lake Riverside about 4 p.m., the FAA said.
The victims were not immediately identified.
FAA officials said the single-engine plane may have just taken off from a nearby private airstrip.
Lake Riverside is about 30 miles east of Temecula, near the Cahuilla Indian Reservation.
