Air France’s Concorde jet swooped into Charles de Gaulle Airport on its final commercial flight home, ending 2 1/2 decades of supersonic travel between New York and Paris.

Thousands of fans greeted the “white bird,†as the jet is fondly known in French. “It’s the end of an era,†said Dominique Bussereau, the transportation minister. Eleven crew members and 68 passengers were aboard -- including a woman who bought a seat for her dog.

British Airways, the only other airline flying the Concorde, will retire its fleet in October. Four of the craft will be displayed at museums, and a fifth will go on show at Charles de Gaulle.
