Dallas Streak Ends in Flash to Lightning

After a three-goal first-period blitz by the Tampa Bay Lightning, the Dallas Stars knew their NHL-high unbeaten streak of 12 games didn’t stand much chance of being extended.

Andre Roy scored two first-period goals and Vincent Lecavalier had a goal and two assists as the Lightning handed the Stars their first defeat in almost a month, 4-1, on Friday at Dallas.

Lecavalier triggered the three-goal first period with his 21st of the season for the Lightning. Sergei Zubov’s power-play goal early in the third period ended John Grahame’s bid for his fifth career shutout. Grahame had 25 saves.

Dallas had been 9-0-3 in its previous 12 games, the longest unbeaten stretch in the league this season and tied for third-best in franchise history. It was only the second home loss of the season for the Stars.

Detroit 5, Vancouver 2 -- Detroit defenseman Nicklas Lidstrom scored the go-ahead goal with 6 minutes 45 seconds remaining for the Red Wings at Vancouver, British Columbia.

Dan Cloutier had 19 saves for Vancouver and he made a good pad stop late in the game that kept Brett Hull one away from becoming the sixth NHL player to score 700 goals.

Buffalo 4, Toronto 0 -- Martin Biron made 27 saves in his third consecutive shutout and Miroslav Satan had two goals and two assists to help the Sabres extend their unbeaten streak to seven with a win at Buffalo, N.Y.

New York Islanders 3, Philadelphia 1 -- Kim Johnsson scored the only goal for host Philadelphia, which had had two goals disallowed, including one that would have tied the score with 9:17 remaining.

Phoenix 5, Edmonton 1 -- Daymond Langkow scored three goals for his second career hat trick and Zac Bierk made 38 saves to help the Coyotes win at Edmonton, Alberta.

Carolina 3, Florida 1 -- Nic Wallin and Josef Vasicek scored in a 2 1/2-minute span of the second period at Raleigh, N.C. to help Carolina end losing streak at eight.

The NHL granted Mark Hamister his fourth and what could be his final extension to complete the conditional purchase of the bankrupt Buffalo Sabres.
