Panel Backs New Police Facility in Civic Center

A Los Angeles city panel has recommended that a new Police Department headquarters be built on city land in the downtown Civic Center area with $215 million in debt financing, according to a report released Thursday. The cost could reach $285 million if a larger facility is built to replace Parker Center.
The city’s Municipal Facilities Committee, made up of top administrators, decided against permanently moving police headquarters to an existing building outside the Civic Center through a purchase or lease.
