Third Vote Is Needed to Pick Havel’s Successor

Czech lawmakers failed to pick a successor to President Vaclav Havel for the second time in 10 days, forcing a third vote, the date of which has not been announced.
Havel, who led the Czechs into the North Atlantic Treaty Organization and to the doorstep of the European Union, steps down Feb. 2 after his second and final term.
Three candidates -- former Prime Ministers Vaclav Klaus and Milos Zeman, and Sen. Jaroslava Moserova -- failed to gain a majority.
