Post-Holiday Arrests of Illegal Migrants Soar

Apprehensions of illegal immigrants along Arizona’s border have picked up daily in the new year, suggesting the annual post-holiday flood of people returning from Mexico has begun.
Many migrants from Mexico who come to the United States spend the holidays with their families across the border. Daily apprehensions in the Border Patrol’s Tucson sector, which covers most of the Arizona-Mexico border, more than doubled between New Year’s Day and Monday -- from 219 on Jan. 1 to 481 on Monday.
