Alleged Mob Boss in Cicero Is Sentenced

The man prosecutors call the boss of the Cicero mob was sentenced to more than a dozen years in prison for masterminding a bogus insurance scheme that swindled the town out of $12 million.
Michael Spano Sr. was sentenced hours after Emil Schullo, former Cicero police chief, was sent to prison for more than nine years for his part in the conspiracy.
They were among seven defendants, including Betty Loren-Maltese, Cicero’s town president, convicted in August of defrauding the Chicago suburb, long known as a haven for mob-related corruption.
