‘Violent’ Inmate Escapes From Hospital
From Staff and Wire Reports
An inmate described as “very violent†escaped Wednesday evening from UC San Diego Medical Center.
Calvin Bruce, 39, asked a guard if he could use the restroom and then slipped out a back door. He had been taken to the hospital with chest pains.
The Sheriff’s Department said Bruce was in jail on robbery charges, but his rap sheet included assault with a deadly weapon and attempted murder.
At least dogs and 30 officers took part in the search for him. He was wearing blue, jail-issued pants and shirt and was not handcuffed.
