$2.5-Million Blaze Is Contained, Officials Say
From Staff and Wire Reports
Fire officials battling a 26-day-old fire at a Fresno excavation business said the smoldering blaze has been contained.
Officials plan to study how to prevent similar fires. A mayoral task force was expected to report its findings to the City Council.
The fire started Jan. 11 at Archie Crippen Excavation by spontaneous combustion and burned wood, concrete, carpet, mattresses, automobile parts and other debris. Costs to battle the blaze on the 25-foot-high pile have reached about $2.5 million.
