Cable TV Companies Are a Real Turnoff

Re “Power Shift Roils Cable TV Panelists,” Dec. 22: Regardless of whether the City Council or the citizens panel makes the final decision regarding cable TV contract renewals, they should have the city of Los Angeles lead a coalition of municipalities in taking over operating cable TV.

Currently the cable companies offer only escalating prices, bad technology and few choices. Everyone is forced to pay high costs for channels they do not want, particularly high-priced sports channels. Cable boxes do not allow programming for multiple events when you get digital cable. Our city is large enough to have some weight with program providers and could lead a coalition of cities that are tired of having no choice in going along with high rates for the same lousy service.
