Open Space Agency to Buy Ranch for Park
Sonoma County’s Open Space District will purchase nearly 1,300 acres of the Beltane Ranch in Sonoma Valley for $9.1 million.
The deal, approved Tuesday by county supervisors, represents the most expensive property purchase in the 13-year-old district’s history and the largest parcel of land it has bought for use as a park.
The Agricultural Preservation and Open Space District plans to give the land to the state for a park, and hopes ultimately to buy rights to adjacent land that would connect to nearby Sugarloaf Ridge State Park.
The district will buy the land from descendants of ranchers Ralph and Effia Heins.
