From Staff and Wire Reports
The California Fish and Game Commission voted Friday to reduce herring quotas in San Francisco Bay rather than ban fishing of the bay’s last commercial catch, as state regulators had recommended.
Meeting in Santa Rosa, the commission decided to reduce the total allowable catch of herring to 2,200 tons this season, down from 3,520 tons last season, said state Department of Fish and Game spokeswoman Mary Patyten. The commission also voted to shorten the coming season to two months. It typically runs from December to March.
