Killer Gets 37 Years to Life in Slaying

A man convicted of murder in the slaying of a 49-year-old Palmdale woman was sentenced Monday to 37 years to life in state prison. Richard Daniel Estrada, 28, of Palmdale was found guilty July 8 of second-degree murder in the beating and strangulation of Carol Evjen.
Her body was discovered by a jogger in a sparsely populated desert area on Old Harold Road on Jan. 21, 2001, a day after she was last seen at a Palmdale bar.
