Driver Crashes Into Newspaper Building
A Stockton man crashed a Cadillac into the local newspaper’s building, tearing a hole in the wall and flinging rubble across the office of the editor in chief.
Police arrested Johnny Mariano Arong, 34, on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance for sale, driving under the influence, resisting arrest and violating parole.
Police said Arong was speeding around 1 a.m. Saturday, ran several traffic lights, and then ran into a traffic light and the Record’s building.
The car crashed through granite slabs on the outside of the building and disintegrated drywall, but didn’t make it all the way through horizontal steel bars, copy editor Frankie Borem said.
No one was in that area of the building when it was hit, Borem said.
