The wholesale price of gasoline in California jumped after Valero Energy Corp. said a gasoline-making unit at its Wilmington refinery would be shut down for about two weeks.
The rack price for regular gasoline, which is a wholesale price that does not include delivery charges, hit 93 cents a gallon in Los Angeles, up 6.25 cents from Tuesday’s price, according to Bloomberg’s daily gas price report.

Refinery malfunction--Valero Energy Corp. reported a problem in the main air blower of a gasoline-making unit at its Wilmington refinery, which will reduce gasoline production for about two weeks while the unit is being repaired. An item in Thursday’s Business section incorrectly stated that the problem was in the main air blower of the entire refinery.
Retail pump prices usually reflect wholesale price increases within a few days. Prices have been rising over the last week and a half after a fire damaged BP’s Carson refinery.
San Antonio-based Valero said a breakdown in its main air blower at its Wilmington refinery cut gasoline production to 45,000 barrels a day from the normal capacity of 80,000 barrels.
