Man to Be Deported, Tried in Woman’s Death
From Times Staff Reports
A judge has ordered the deportation of a man to face charges in Italy that he killed the mother of their child.
Carlo Ventre, 53, was sentenced here in September 2001 to a year in jail for kidnapping his 4-year-old daughter in Los Angeles and taking her to Rome in 1997.
The girl’s mother, Toni Dykstra, went to Italy to get the child. She died in Ventre’s apartment.
Ventre returned to the U.S. but was arrested for kidnapping. Italy filed manslaughter charges.
