Car Kills Two Women Changing Tire on the 55
Two Long Beach women who had stopped on a shoulder of the Costa Mesa Freeway to change a tire were killed when a passing car struck them early Saturday morning, authorities said.
Chhonn Buth, 65, and Mary Pech, 49, were killed about 4 a.m. on the southbound side of the freeway just past the Katella Avenue exit in Orange, a coroner’s official said.
Two others in their car were hospitalized with minor injuries, a California Highway Patrol dispatcher said. The name of the other vehicle’s driver was not released, pending an investigation.
