200 Gallons of ‘Date Rape’ Drug Seized
An Anaheim man will be arraigned Monday on drug possession charges stemming from a bust detectives believe may be one of the state’s largest seizures of GHB, known as the “date-rape” drug or “liquid ecstasy,” authorities said Saturday.
Jorge Hodjers, 46, has been held on $100,000 bail at Orange County Jail since his arrest Thursday. He has been charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of methamphetamine.
Orange police detectives found 200 gallons of GHB, or gamma hydroxybutyrate, and 1,000 yaba pills, which contain methamphetamine and caffeine, at addresses in Orange and Santa Ana they said were linked to Hodjers, Sgt. Bryan Meissner said.
The GHB, found in concentrated form, had a wholesale value of $59,000 but could have sold for as much as $500,000 on the street. The yaba tablets had a street value of $10,000, Meissner said.
Yaba, Thai for “crazy medicine,” creates an effect similar to that of crack cocaine. GHB lowers inhibitions and also is used as a body-building supplement.
