U.N. Appeals for Urgent Food Aid
From Times Wire Reports
The United Nations appealed for urgent food aid for drought-stricken Ethiopia, where the government says it fears a repeat of the 1984 disaster that killed almost 1 million people.
Aid workers say children and the elderly are already dying from hunger in the worst-affected area. Many livestock have also died.
The U.N.’s World Food Program said the drought is expected to push the number needing food aid to at least 10 million people next year from a current 6 million.
