Killer Ordered to Pay Ex-Husband $45 Million
Santa Rosa Valley homemaker Socorro Caro, convicted of murdering three of her sons in 1999, has been ordered to pay her ex-husband $45 million in a civil lawsuit.
The judgment against Caro, who is awaiting execution in state prison, was issued last week by Ventura County Superior Court Judge Henry Walsh. Physician Xavier Caro had sued his wife, alleging wrongful death.
“The evidence was irrefutable,” said Keith Sipprelle, Xavier Caro’s attorney. “She committed the murders and Dr. Caro was severely damaged as a result.”
Acting on a motion for summary judgment, to which Socorro Caro did not respond, Walsh awarded Xavier Caro $15 million for each child.
Although divorced, the couple’s marital assets are still being divided in court. Though Socorro Caro may have been entitled to half of the assets, she could be left with nothing.
