A man found dead Sunday morning in a Costa Mesa motel room was the victim of a homicide, police said Monday.
The body of Neal Daniel Sheldon of Newport Beach was found Sunday about 9:30 a.m. in a room at the Countryside Inn, said Costa Mesa Police Lt. Dale Birney. The 42-year-old victim suffered blunt-force trauma to the head, Birney said in a news release.
Sheldon checked in to the motel, on Bristol Street near Red Hill Avenue, five days before his body was discovered, Birney said. It was the first homicide in Costa Mesa this year.
No suspects had been arrested as of Sunday evening.
