Ugly Architecture
I’ve always admired the simple architecture of the Music Center and was looking forward to being there again to attend “The Full Monty” at the Ahmanson. However, as our bus left the freeway and went up Temple Street, I spotted what appeared to be a very unattractive industrial building. I was soon set straight. It was the “Taj Mahony”--the new cathedral. I couldn’t believe that there could be any uglier building around.
However, going up Grand Avenue to 1st Street I saw what looked like a gigantic pile of scrap steel undergoing some kind of construction or destruction. That, I was told, was the new Walt Disney Concert Hall. I guess the architects of Los Angeles are vying to make it the City of Uglies.
