Brentwood Pulls Off the Upset

Fourth-seeded Brentwood (17-4) won eight of nine doubles sets and Eric McKean won two sets at No. 1 singles Thursday to help knock off top-seeded Corona del Mar, 10-8, in a Southern Section Division V boys’ tennis quarterfinal at Corona del Mar.
Cameron Ball swept his three singles sets for Corona del Mar, which defeated Brentwood, 10-8, in a nonleague match this season.
Ari Rosenthal and Michael Freeman won two sets at No. 3 doubles for Brentwood, which will play North Hollywood Harvard-Westlake in the division final at 1p.m. Wednesday at The Claremont Club in Claremont.
North Hollywood Harvard-Westlake 11, San Marino 7--The second-seeded Wolverines (26-1) swept all nine doubles sets and Jesse Ferlianto and John Greenberg each picked up a set in singles in a Division V victory over third-seeded San Marino (23-4) at Studio City Golf and Tennis.
“I was hoping I was going to have something to celebrate tonight, and now I do,” said Ferlianto, who turned 18 on Thursday. Ferlianto defaulted his third set after the victory was clinched by Harvard-Westlake’s No. 3 doubles team of Joe Hiatt and Bret Thacher. Hiatt and Thacher won their sets, 6-3, 6-4, 6-2.
