Defense Blames Mother in Teacher Sex Lawsuit

The mother of a Washington state man who as a boy had sex with his sixth-grade teacher failed to protect him, not the police and school officials the family is suing for up to $1.9 million in damages, defense attorneys argued in Seattle.
Vili Fualaau, now 18, and his mother are suing Highline School District in Burien, a Seattle suburb, and police in nearby Des Moines for letting sex education teacher Mary Kay Letourneau seduce and manipulate him starting when he was 12. Letourneau bore two daughters by the youth.
Jury deliberations begin today.
