Vivendi Universal may abandon plans to buy the unprofitable television operation Stream after Italian authorities imposed new conditions on the purchase, analysts said.
Vivendi can buy Stream from News Corp. and merge it with Telepiu, its pay-TV unit, if it agrees to limit broadcasting contracts with Italian soccer clubs to two years, Italy’s Antitrust Authority said.
The ruling lifts the last regulatory obstacle and clears the way for a merger of the rival Italian companies.
