A Los Angeles man attending a wedding in Newport Beach over the weekend was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after he allegedly stabbed a guest, then a security guard who tried to break up the fight, police said.
Ramon Cuevas, 34, was being held Sunday at Orange County Jail in lieu of $250,000 bail. He was taken into custody Saturday at Temple Bat Yahm.
The fight broke out about 10:30 p.m. Saturday. Police found a guest on the ground in front of the building with a stab wound to his upper body. He was in stable condition Sunday at Western Medical Center in Santa Ana.
A security guard who tried to intervene was treated at Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian in Newport Beach for a hand injury and released.
Another security guard at the reception allegedly disarmed Cuevas but was unable to take him into custody.
Witnesses identified the suspect when police arrived.
Authorities are investigating the motive for the stabbing. They did not identify the victims or the family hosting the wedding.
