Landlord Settles Suit Over Dozens of Evictions
- Share via
Attorneys for landlord Genshiro Kawamoto have signed a settlement ending a lawsuit filed after he evicted dozens of people from homes he owns in Sonoma County.
The settlement ends a 2-month-old suit that accuses Kawamoto of keeping 149 rental homes in Santa Rosa in disrepair. It calls for him to pay the county $80,000 in legal fees, make thousands of dollars in repairs, and offer current and some former tenants up to two months’ free rent.
Kawamoto drew statewide attention in February when he suddenly announced plans to sell the Santa Rosa homes and another 420 homes in Sacramento. He gave most tenants 30 days to get out.
