AMC Entertainment Inc., the biggest publicly traded U.S. movie-theater chain, completed its purchase of GC Cos. for about $167million.
The acquisition follows approval of closely held GC’s reorganization plan by a U.S. Bankruptcy Court this month, the companies said. Kansas City, Mo.-based AMC said it has no near-term plans to shut any of GC’s theaters.
AMC gets 66 theaters with 621 screens in the U.S. and a 50% stake in a joint venture that operates 17 theaters with 160 screens in South America. With the purchase, AMC has 3,520 screens in 247 complexes.
