Driver Hospitalized After Pickup Slams Into Bus
A motorist was critically injured after allegedly running a red light and crashing into a bus Tuesday morning, authorities said.
Three of the 12 passengers on the South Coast Area Transit bus were treated for minor injuries, said Officer Steve Reid, a spokesman for the California Highway Patrol. The bus driver, Vincente Carrera, 52, of Oxnard, suffered facial lacerations but declined treatment.
Paul Ayala’s pickup hit the bus as it was turning left from Simon Way on to Vineyard Avenue at about 8:45 a.m., according to police reports. Witnesses told officers that Ayala had failed to stop at a red light, Reed said.
Ayala, who had been traveling north on Vineyard, was taken to St. John’s Regional Medical Center.
