BBQ Treat: Thai Strips
You’ll find excellent Thai barbecued chicken at the Thai Deli, a bustling little place in a corner mall on Cesar E. Chavez Avenue, just east of downtown Los Angeles. The chicken stands out because it is cut into thin strips that can be barbecued while you wait, not precooked and finished on the grill, as in restaurants that serve large pieces such as legs and breasts. Orders come with a small salad, lots of fried rice and containers of spicy-sweet Thai dipping sauce. Although it has three small tables, the Thai Deli is primarily a takeout place. To reduce waiting time, order by phone in advance.
