Driver Hurt When Train Hits Big-Rig
A Metrolink train struck a big-rig truck as it crossed the tracks at 5th Street and Del Norte Boulevard in Oxnard on Monday evening, injuring the truck driver.
None of the northbound train’s 60 passengers was known to be hurt, police said. The driver, Mike LaFrance, 52, of Palm Springs, was taken to St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Oxnard.
His condition was not immediately available.
The truck, with an empty refrigerated trailer, was stopped on the tracks at Del Norte about 6:30 p.m., waiting to pull into traffic on 5th Street, Oxnard Police Officer Karl Dyer said. “Apparently he couldn’t get out†as the train approached, he said.
Dyer said the crossing lights were operating, but he didn’t know whether the gate had come down.
