Boy, 13, Is Stabbed in Group Confrontation Near School
A 13-year-old boy was in stable condition Wednesday after being stabbed during a confrontation with as many as 14 other teenagers in front of his Garden Grove intermediate school, authorities said.
“We suspect it is gang-related,†Sgt. Mike Handfield, a spokesman for the Garden Grove Police Department, said of the fracas, which began about 5 p.m.
Handfield said the boy was at a department store near Jordan Intermediate School when he was confronted by a large group of boys ages 13 to 15. They apparently moved to the sidewalk by the school, he said, where the boy was stabbed twice with a knife.
When police arrived, the boys fled on foot. Seven were caught and held for questioning.
The wounded teenager was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange. His wounds did not appear to be life-threatening, authorities said.
